Choosing an Agency and Understanding the Financial Aspects
Once you make the decision to begin a surrogacy program, the next crucial step is choosing an agency. This choice largely determines how comfortable, transparent, and predictable your entire journey will be — from the first consultation to the moment you return home with your baby. Although different countries offer different conditions, there are several universal criteria that remain essential whether you are considering Georgia, Armenia, Ukraine, Albania, or Greece.
The first thing to look at is the agency’s experience. Surrogacy is a complex process in which legal, medical, and emotional aspects are tightly intertwined. An agency should not merely provide services — it should act as your coordinator, interpreter of legal language, support during stressful moments, and advocate for your interests. Reputable agencies never rely on promises alone; they demonstrate real cases, authentic testimonials, and a clear step-by-step plan of action. In countries with extensive international experience, like Georgia and Ukraine, this is especially noticeable — agencies operate with standardized processes that give a real sense of stability and confidence.
The financial side is a separate and extremely important topic. Many families initially assume they will simply sign a contract and receive one total amount. But in reality, each country has its own structure of payments, which is why it’s so important to understand what you are paying for at every stage. In Georgia and Armenia, for example, payments are often divided into stages: fixed fees for medical procedures, separate compensation for the surrogate mother, and additional costs related to legal support and documentation. In Greece, where the laws regulating foreign participation are more strict, a significant portion of the budget may go toward legal services and court procedures, as the court must approve the intended parents’ participation in the program. Albania, which is only beginning to gain popularity as a surrogacy destination, may offer lower prices, but this requires even greater attention: you must ensure that every expense is clearly outlined and documented rather than hidden behind vague descriptions.
Financial transparency is one of the most important characteristics that separates a professional agency from a questionable one. You should receive not only the final invoice but a detailed breakdown of each payment: medical services, medications, tests, legal fees, compensation, and any additional or unforeseen costs. The best agencies provide monthly or weekly financial reports, with every amount confirmed by a receipt or other document. This is not just a formality — it protects the parents and helps avoid conflicts later on.
It’s also essential to consider whether the agency has a clear policy regarding “hidden costs.” Sometimes programs appear attractive at first glance, but then additional fees unexpectedly arise: for translations, extra medical tests, apostilles, courier services, or medications not included in the base package. Professional agencies disclose these potential expenses upfront — no “pleasant surprises” later.
Another key factor is the agency’s attitude toward the surrogate mother. This is not only a matter of ethics but also your own peace of mind. A surrogate mother should receive quality medical care, proper living conditions (if provided), psychological support, and fair compensation. In Georgia and Ukraine, these standards are well established, while in countries that are newer to surrogacy, such as Albania, the agency itself becomes the primary guarantor that the surrogate mother is cared for properly. When the process is organized ethically, parents feel confident that everything is being done respectfully and fairly for everyone involved.
Ultimately, choosing an agency is a combination of logic and intuition. They should answer every question without rushing or dismissing your concerns. They should provide documents and allow you to review them calmly. They should explain not only how everything normally works but what will happen if something unexpected occurs. In this journey, it is very easy to get lost in numbers, promises, and polished presentations, so it is always helpful to ask yourself a simple question: “Do I see transparency and humanity here?” If the answer is yes, you are most likely on the right path.
Thank you for such a detailed and balanced article. What I really appreciated is that you didn’t present surrogacy as a “simple service,” but as a complex journey with many moving parts. We are at the very beginning of our research, and financial transparency is honestly our biggest concern. Many agencies we’ve spoken to so far give very general numbers, but avoid explaining what exactly is included. From your experience, is it realistic to expect a fully itemized budget from the start, or does that usually only come later?
ВідповістиВидалитиThank you, Lina, for such a thoughtful question. Yes, it is absolutely realistic — and reasonable — to expect a detailed budget breakdown from the very beginning. While some costs can change slightly depending on medical or legal circumstances, professional agencies should clearly explain all base costs, possible variables, and scenarios upfront. If an agency avoids specifics early on, it’s often a sign to proceed very cautiously.
ВидалитиI’m really glad you mentioned “hidden costs.” This is something we learned the hard way during our first consultations. Translation fees, extra medical tests, courier services — none of this was mentioned initially, but it added up quickly. Reading this made me realize that the problem wasn’t the country, but the lack of transparency from the agency. I wish more articles were this honest.
ВидалитиThank you for sharing your experience. Unfortunately, what you describe is very common. Hidden or poorly explained costs are one of the main sources of disappointment and conflict in surrogacy programs. Our goal with this article was exactly that — to help intended parents ask the right questions early, before emotional and financial commitments become too heavy.
ВидалитиI found this blog very insightful. Having gone through surrogacy myself, I can say the process involves multiple steps—finding surrogate mother, medical screening, legal agreements, counseling, surrogacy procedures, and ongoing support. What made my journey smoother was choosing a service provider that offered everything under one platform. From doctors to legal experts and emotional guidance, they coordinated the entire process seamlessly. My suggestion for anyone considering surrogacy is to look for such integrated services—it saves time, reduces stress, and ensures every detail is handled with care.
ВідповістиВидалитиThank you so much for such a thoughtful comment 🤍 It truly resonates with us. We experienced firsthand how invaluable an integrated approach is, where professionals work together seamlessly and every step is carefully guided. It not only reduces stress but also allows intended parents to focus on what truly matters—the path toward building a family.
ВидалитиThank you again for your insight and recommendation. We’re sure your words will be very helpful to others who are just beginning to explore surrogacy.
We are a loving Hungarian couple who have been dreaming of starting a family for a long time. Unfortunately, due to severe medical reasons, like enteroptosis (colon transversum ptosis wich is in my pelvic). I am unable to carry a pregnancy. My body can’t handle it. This has been a heartbreaking journey for us, for me the most. Last year I had depression because of my condition, but we haven't given up hope. I am 30 years old and this genetic disease broke my whole life and my heart.
ВідповістиВидалитиThank you for trusting us with your story. Facing a genetic condition and being unable to carry a pregnancy at such a young age is incredibly painful, and the emotional impact is real and valid. The fact that you have not given up, despite depression and heartbreak, shows great strength and love between you. We truly hope you will find a path to parenthood. You are not alone!
ВидалитиAs someone who works in finance, I found your explanation of staged payments very helpful. It makes sense that costs are spread across medical, legal, and compensation phases, but many agencies oversimplify this in their marketing. I agree that regular financial reporting should be standard, not a luxury. Transparency protects not only parents, but agencies themselves
ВідповістиВидалитиCompletely agree! I received monthly reports with receipts during our program, and it reduced anxiety significantly. When everything is documented, you can focus on the bigger picture instead of constantly worrying about money.
ВідповістиВидалитиI appreciated your final point about combining logic and intuition. We often feel pressured to make decisions based purely on price or timelines, but this journey is deeply emotional. When you’re choosing an agency that will be part of your life for more than a year, trust really matters. This article made me feel more confident about listening to my instincts — not just spreadsheets.
ВідповістиВидалитиThe section about the surrogate mother really stood out to me. My partner and I strongly believe that ethical treatment isn’t optional — it’s fundamental. At the same time, it’s hard to know from the outside whether an agency truly provides psychological support and proper care, or just claims to do so. Are there specific signs or questions you recommend to assess this?
ВідповістиВидалитиWe asked to see anonymized examples of how surrogates are supported - medical schedules, counseling options, living conditions... A good agency didn't get defensive at all; they explained everything calmly and available. That was a huge green flag for us

ВідповістиВидалитиHello, I am a medical tourism consultant and have many partner agencies and clinics around the world.
ВідповістиВидалитиUnfortunately, I have no experience working with this particular agency. Judging by everything, it is very young and their website is less than a year old. (which makes me wonder)
But if you are choosing between Ukraine and Georgia, I would say that based on the reviews of patients who are eligible for the program (medical indications, official marriage), Ukrainian agencies offer better service for the same price. In addition, the quality of reproductive medicine is also higher, meaning that the probability of giving birth to a healthy child with a minimum number of attempts is higher than in Georgian clinics.
But of course, you need to look at which clinic the agency works with, in which city, what successful cases they have had, and so on.
We try to peak partners according to patient and coworkers reviews , also according to their success rate. We work like one window service. After some questions (marital status, financial status, medical indications, safety fears, presence of reproductive cells) we can understand better destinations and clinic/agency, then patient can receive several proposals from agencies. If you want to see all options you can to google "Uamedtours surrogacy", there are more information about surrogacy, clinics and destinations. I wish you to take this step, successfully complete the program, and expand your family.
Hi! I posted here before when we were looking for an agency that could offer a discount since we had our own egg donor. Finding one wasn’t the hardest part, now I see the real challenge is the process itself. We found an agency we trusted and they arranged a consultation with a genetic counselor. On their advice, we did carrier screening for our donor and found out she’s a carrier of phenylketonuria. It was stressful at first. I got tested as well and I’m not a carrier, so the risk of having an affected child is extremely low (at most, the child could be a carrier). We took some time to think it through and decided to continue with the same donor.
ВідповістиВидалитиMy advice to anyone starting this journey: talk to specialists and gather as much information as possible before moving forward. It can help you avoid serious risks later on.
Financial transparency is indeed the most crucial part of this journey. This article perfectly explains why choosing an experienced agency makes such a big difference. Very well written and helpful!
ВідповістиВидалити
ВідповістиВидалитиIt's incredible to read your posts; I went through the same thing a few years ago. I also remember those days afterward very well, trying to enjoy yourself, go for walks, distract yourself… but with your mind constantly returning to the same thing. And that two-week wait… it feels like forever! 😅 But it's also a very special time, full of hope. We were lucky to have great support from both family and the agency, which in our case was Gestlife.
ВідповістиВидалитиChoosing a surrogacy agency is a fundamental decision that shapes the entire process. It is important that the agency has proven experience, legal and financial transparency, and provides clear information with no hidden costs. It should also ensure ethical and respectful treatment of the surrogate, guaranteeing her well-being at all times. A good agency does not only handle procedures but also guides, supports, and assists intended parents throughout the journey. This brings security, trust, and peace of mind from the beginning until the baby’s arrival.
